James Brown goes country! Det skulle det kunna vara – i stället är det southern soul goes New York 2025. På Daddy B. Nice´s website läser jag: ”I never thought I´d seen it. They´re street dancing to 803Fresh´s ’Boots On The Ground’ in Times Square – attracting crowds who watch, stupefied, wondering what the hell they´rewitnessing.”

803Fresh från South Carolina är alltså en av de nya unga southern soul-snubbarna, och han har fått in en fot (eller snarare sina boots) på Manhattan i en line dance craze. Daddy B. avslutar sin recension med en undran ”om line dance är southern souls entrébiljett till nationell uppmärksamhet?”. Många SS-fans trodde nog att detta under skulle ske när Theodis Ealey 2004 låg nr 1 på Billboards Hot 100 R&B/Hip Hop-lista fem veckor med ”Stand up in it”. Men så blev det inte. Det lär inte hända nu heller, men en kul grej är det.

PS     Från New York till Nashville: I ungefär samma musikaliska grannskap kan noteras att Bobby Rush & Kenny Wayne Shephard är bokade på Grand Ole Opry i augusti.
